Episode 2: Frederick Douglass Lives!

“Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who’s done an amazing job and is getting recognized more and more.” So said the President of the United States last year, prompting a million tweets and articles asking: “Does President Trump know Frederick Douglass is dead?” Well, he is, sadly, but his words and message are as necessary as ever. In this, the second episode of our new podcast The Book Light, we’re exploring the life and times of Frederick Douglass, writer, orator, radical, inspiration. We’ll talk about why Douglass is the best known African American writer of the nineteenth century, the techniques that make his words so compelling, how he was intersectional before we knew what intersectionality meant, and much more.
